Sappington Farmers’ Market — Heirloom Tomatoes

Available at Sappington Farmers Market Starting in April 2009

  • Aunt Ruby’s German Green: Brilliant neon-green flesh with a strong, sweet taste. Can grow to over 1 pound.
  • Black Krim: Dark, red-purple fruit, rich sweet flavor. Very juicy. An heirloom from Russia.
  • Brandywine: The most popular heirloom vegetable! Large fruit, superb flavor. Up to 1 and ½ pound.
  • Boxcar Willie: Bright orange-red 10 to 16 oz. with slightly acid tomato flavor. Good for canning, juice.
  • Caspian Pink: Russian heirloom, deep pink, mild and sweet. Twelve-ounce average.
  • Cherokee Purple: Owner Nancy Smith’s favorite tomato. An old Cherokee Indian variety, pre-1890. Beautiful deep, dusky purple-pink color with swirls that are almost black. Superb sweet old-time tomato flavor, and very large fruit. Good disease resistance.
  • Green Zebra: Beautiful chartreuse with deep lime-green stripes. Rich-tasting, sweet with a bite. Excellent yield. Around 3 ounces.
  • Jubilee: Fine, sweet, mild flavor. Average size and yield.
  • Marglobe: Medium sized red fruit make excellent canning tomatoes. Good size and uniform deep scarlet color. Good for humid climates.
  • Mortgage Lifter: Large, smooth, 1-lb. Pink fruit. Delicious, rich, sweet taste.
  • Mr. Stripey: Red tomatoes with yellow stripes. Excellent for salads. Low acid.
  • Old German: Beautiful large yellow and crimson fruit. Luscious, rich flavor. An old Mennonite heirloom.
  • Orange Oxheart: Beautiful, big, oval pointed fruit with fine, sweet old-fashioned flavor.
  • Rutgers Select: Good for canning, also excellent fresh. Good, consistent yields and flavor. Disease-resistant and reliable.
  • Wisconsin 55: All-purpose tomato from Wisconsin.
